4. Grooming and Uniform Expectations for All Students

All students in grades K-8 are expected to be well groomed at all times. Please remember the following GROOMING EXPECTATIONS when you are getting ready to return to school for the 2005/2006 school year. We ask parents’ cooperation to see that the grooming codes and expectations are followed at all times. It is not the responsibility of school personnel to be constantly reminding students about proper uniforms, and grooming expectations. All boys Grades K - 8 All boys are to have a regular, non shaved hair cut. Hair should be tapered and above the collar in the back and above the top of the ears. It must be out of the eyes, clean and may not be artificially colored in any way. Hair is to be free of hair gel, hair spray, mousse and/ or heavy oils. Razor shaved cuts, mushroom cuts, wing cuts and any cut that relates to a current philosophical statement has no place at St. Teresa of Avila School and is NOT ALLOWED. Uniform clothes, especially pants and/or shorts are to fit properly and MAY NOT be baggy or oversized. Belts are required and pants must be worn at the waist. They MAY NOT be worn hugging the hips. Socks must be seen above the shoes - no anklets. All boys, especially those in the junior high grades, are expected to be clean shaven at all times. Any style of facial hair is not allowed to be worn at any time. Boys may not wear earrings of any kind. A single (1) necklace and/or bracelet may be worn Any charm worn on the single necklace and/or bracelet must be limited to a religious theme only, appropriate for school. Students may not have a tattoo - temporary or permanent Body piercing of any type is not acceptable All girls Grades K - 8 All girls are to have clean, neatly styled hair that is secured in such a manner that it will not fall in their eyes and face. Hair is to be free of hair gel, hair spray and /or mousse and may not be artificially colored in any way. Bangs may not be gelled or hair sprayed to stand above the hair. Uniform skort length may not be shorter than the top of the knee nor longer than the bottom of the knee. Skorts may not be rolled at the waist to be made shorter. Socks must be seen above the shoes - no anklets. For safety reasons only ONE pair of small stud earrings is acceptable. Hoop and/ or dangling earrings are not allowed. A single (1) necklace and/or bracelet may be worn Any charm worn on the single necklace and/or bracelet must be limited to a religious theme only, appropriate for school. Students may not have a tattoo - temporary or permanent Body piercing of any type is not acceptable. This includes multiple ear piercing. For girls and boys Grades K - 8 All shirts and blouses are to be properly tucked in at all times of the day, except during lunch recess and during physical education. St. Teresa of Avila students are expected to adhere to the uniform and grooming codes at all times. Fads, and other current philosophical statements made through clothing, jewelry, hair styles and hair cuts, etc. have no place, ARE NOT ALLOWED, at St. Teresa of Avila School. And , it is to be understood that all decisions regarding acceptability of appearance rests with the Principal.
